About
M-Elisabeth has eight children with Claude Vandandaique, five who presumably live into adulthood — three boys and two girls over the course of 15 years. Claude dies before 1759 and she marries Pierre Blanchard in 1764, eight years after the birth of her last son with Claude. Pierre is much younger as she is 14 years his senior at the time of their marriage.
She and Pierre try to have a child of their own soon after the marriage. She dies 12 days after giving birth to Marie Isabelle.
Notes
- Claude Vandandaique — M-Elisabeth is 18 and Claude is 30 when they marry, according to records. In some of the “PRDH” source material for Claude, “Gadbois” is sometimes included, possibly as a dit name, but not commonly used on other source documents. It is unknown if Claude is previously married.
- Claude’s death date — Claude is shown as deceased on “PRDH” #331173 dated 28 October 1759 – this being a baptism for possibly an acquaintance or neighbor of M-Elisabeth.
- Pierre Blanchard — M-Elisabeth is 42 and Pierre is 28 (“AFGS” “RCU 002) when they marry, although “PRDH” file #331429 shows her age to be (incorrectly) 37. Pierre’s residence is shown as “St. Michel D’Yamaska” on “PRDH” marriage file. On some of the “PRDH” source documents, Pierre’s father is shown with the “Turenne” surname. This may be a “dit” name, but is not commonly used in other source documents and may have been dropped in subsequent generations. It is unknown if Pierre is previously married.
- St. Antoine-de-Chambly vs. St. Antoine-sur-Richelieu — M-Elisabeth’s second marriage to Pierre occurred in one of two documented places. “St.Antoine-de-Chambly” is from the “DGdQ” source, page 510. “St. Antoine-sur-Richelieu” is from the “AFGS” “PRDH” database, file #331429.
- Typically, the location of Canada is shown for familiarity purposes. At this time in Canadian history, it would have been known as “Nouvelle France” (New France). See (Generation 11.32) Marcel’s “Introduction” and “Story of Pierre” for additional information. New France became the British Province of Quebec in 1763 after France ceded it in the Treaty of Paris at the end of the Seven Years’ War.
